How we help
-
Couples counselling is not about deciding who is “right” or “wrong” — it’s about understanding what is happening between you, and learning how to reconnect in a way that feels safe, honest, and sustainable.
-
We help couples move out of repetitive conflict patterns and into clearer, more supportive communication. Many couples come to us feeling stuck in the same arguments, emotionally disconnected, or unsure whether they can move forward together. Others come in after trust has been impacted or when the relationship feels strained but still important.
-
Our approach is calm, practical, and down-to-earth. We create a space where both partners can feel heard without judgement, defensiveness, or escalation.
-
We support couples who are experiencing:
-
Repeating arguments that never seem to resolve
-
Communication breakdown or emotional shutdown
-
Trust issues or past hurt that hasn’t been processed
-
Emotional or physical distance in the relationship
-
Conflict that escalates quickly or feels hard to control
-
Feeling stuck, unsure, or “on different pages”
-
A desire to reconnect but not knowing how

FAQ
-
Q1: How does couples counselling work?
Couples counselling provides a structured space to explore relationship patterns, communication difficulties, and emotional disconnection. We help both partners understand what is happening beneath the surface and work together to create healthier ways of relating.
At Hope Centre Perth, sessions are tailored to your relationship and focus on breaking repetitive conflict cycles and improving connection.
-
Q2:Do both partners need to attend?
Ideally, yes. Couples counselling works best when both partners are present so we can understand the dynamic between you and work with it directly.
However, in some situations, we can begin with one partner if the other is unsure or not ready to attend.
-
Q3: What if one of us isn’t sure about therapy?
This is very common. It’s normal for one partner to feel more hesitant than the other.
We encourage starting anyway — even if there is uncertainty. Often, once the first session is experienced, concerns reduce and both partners feel more comfortable engaging in the process.
-
Q4: How many sessions will we need?
This depends on your relationship and what you want to work on. Some couples come for short-term support to address a specific issue, while others prefer ongoing sessions to work through deeper patterns.
We will regularly review progress together so you always know where things are at.
-
Q5: What kinds of issues do couples come to therapy for?
-
Couples often seek support for:
-
ongoing arguments or conflict cycles
-
communication breakdown
-
emotional distance or disconnection
-
trust issues or past hurt
-
feeling stuck or unsure about the future
-
Q6: What makes your couples therapy different?
At Hope Centre Perth, we take a tailored approach to couples therapy. We focus on understanding patterns rather than assigning blame.
We also offer the option of two therapists in the room for couples sessions, which can help balance perspectives, reduce miscommunication, and support deeper understanding between partners.
-
Q7: Is couples counselling confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is confidential, except in rare situations where there is a legal or safety requirement to disclose information (such as risk of harm).
We will always explain confidentiality clearly in your first session.
-
Q9: Where are you located?
We provide couples counselling in Perth from our clinic in Port Kennedy, and we also see clients from surrounding areas including Rockingham, Baldivis, and Mandurah.
