Do I Need a Mental Health Plan to See a Counsellor or Psychotherapist?

In Short, the Answer is no. Here's Why....

A Mental Health Plan is a plan for people with a mental health disorder. If you have mental health issues, your doctor can write out this plan. It identifies what type of health care you need, and spells out what you and your doctor have agreed you are aiming to achieve.

Counsellors and Psychotherapists don't need but can accept a Mental Health Plan because we do not focus on a diagnosis or a specific therapy. Our aim is to provide a range of therapies to suit an individual client and is treated holistically. We can use a Mental Health Plan to guide the therapy session as requested by a GP.

A Mental Health Plan allows a client to receive a Medicare rebate when seeing a Psychologist up to 10-12 sessions per year. After your 10-12 sessions fees can be expensive. Our rates as Counsellors are generally in line with the out of pocket expenses that you would incur by seeing a Psychologist. We do not limit the amount of sessions you receive and our waitlist is usually not as long.

Cancellation Policy – The Hope Centre - Perth

Please note that once you have booked an appointment with us it means that we have reserved time in our schedule exclusively for you. If you cancel your appointment less than 48  hours before it is scheduled to take place or are a no show, you will be subject to a non-refundable fee of no more than $85


  1. I understand that I will be charged a LATE CANCELLATION FEE of $85 if I fail to give at least 48 hours’ notice prior to cancelling my appointment.

  2. I understand that I will be charged a NO-SHOW fee of $85 if I fail to show for my appointment.

  3. I understand that if I have a pension or low-income card that is MY responsibility to make sure that it is in date and I AM responsible for the full charge of the service provided if I cannot provide proof of date and no refund or credit will be issued once provided.

  4. I understand that I AM responsible for the account of any minor using any services provide if I have signed on their behalf.

  5. I understand that a counselling session will be 50 minutes*. I understand that if I am late to the appointment, I will have to end my session at the allotted time. By booking this appointment , I am agreeing to the above stated terms and stipulations regarding the services I receive from The Hope Centre – Perth.

To avoid a cancellation fee, please provide cancellation notice at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.
